With his hands on his hips, radio personality Howard Eskin stood just inside the doors of Xfinity Live!, and took it all in.

“Man, it’s big,” Eskin said.

Tim Tebow’s press conference commanded attention on the 32-foot high-definition television in the NBC Sports Arena section as workers below scurried to put finishing touches on South Philadelphia’s new playpen.

“This is the first time I’ve been here when it’s 98 percent done,” Eskin said. “It looks a little different from when I saw it under construction. It looks bigger.

Chip wreck: Ilya Bryzgalov sidelined with fracture

The one save Ilya Bryzgalov didn’t really have to make hurt the Flyers the most.

As the starting goaltender was leaving the net in warm-ups Monday night, Flyers forward Jakub Voracek took a shot that hit his unsuspecting goalie on the inside of his right foot.

Bryzgalov had X-rays between the end of warm-ups and the start of the game with his skate on and showed no worse for wear. He played the game, making 10 saves on 14 shots, but a postgame MRI revealed a chip fracture in his foot that the Flyers say his body will absorb.

Jeff Halpern Goes Full Circle With USA Hockey

Jeff Halpern wasn’t tired of hockey. He had just played his first 29 games as a freshman with the Princeton Tigers and couldn’t stay away from the game. So Halpern checked out the TV coverage of the 1996 World Cup. It had a lasting effect on his career.

Canada’s Eric Desjardins hit Team USA’s Doug Weight along the boards. But Weight fought back.

“I loved that moment,” said Halpern, a veteran center for the Washington Capitals. “I thought that was a real USA Hockey, punching Canada in the face kind of moment.”

Dreams of playing for Team USA came true for van Riemsdyk

The following was posted on USAHockey.com on Mar. 19, 2012.

It took a while before James van Riemsdyk really believed he could someday don a red, white and blue jersey. He had grown up playing as much hockey as possible as the oldest of three boys in Middletown, N.J., but playing for his country wasn’t really on his radar until high school.

That’s when he found the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship on TV. Watching Team USA play there really inspired van Riemsdyk to imagine that one day it might be possible to wear that jersey as well.
